COMPOSER
MATTHEW EVANS
GRIEF (2011)
Produced by Ugly Rhino Theatre
Grief is an original play by long-term collaborator David Kantounas. The play explores our relationship and obsession with fame and popular culture focusing on the death of a celebrity and one man's spiraling reaction.
Matthew wrote a grinding, industrial electronic score for the play to represent the urban backdrop of the narrative and emotional turmoil of the play's protagonist. The music was used to create transitions between the scenes and featured on the accompanying trailer for the play. This video contains excerpts from the trailer and images from the live show.
Grief was premiered at The Young Vic 'New Voices' festival before being commissioned by New York theatre company Ugly Rhino and staged at the Brooklyn Lyceum.
